Morphology transformation of thermosensitive metronidazol by spray freeze-drying

Abstract Spray freeze-drying (SFD) is an effective method for reducing the size of thermosensitive organic substances that are sparingly soluble in water. Despite advantages method, its use has not yet become widespread. We aimed at studying SFD technique metronidazole as a heat-sensitive active pharmaceutical ingredient particle and investigated morphological physical parameters modified drug. The obtained particles were crystalline all cases their sizes two one order magnitude smaller using water or dimethyl sulphoxide solutions, respectively, compared to initial reference metronidazole. varied depending on experimental (atomization pressure, peristaltic pump speed), although, operating had effect materials than applied concentration starting solution, regardless solvent. as-prepared samples microcrystalline structure retained long time.
